You’ve written the book (fiction or non-fiction), you’re happy with the content, but it’s not quite as polished as you would like it to be. Whether you’re going to self-publish or search for an agent or publisher, you need to attain the level of presentation that can only be achieved with a professional proofread.

With thirteen years of eagle-eyed experience, we at Whoosh have developed a strong reputation in the field and a long list of satisfied clients. We read every manuscript twice to ensure accuracy, consistency and precision.

Spellcheck will only get you so far and will not recognise words that are spelt correctly but misplaced:
‘He walked to the shop than ate a cake.’
‘The bear was unable to bare the pain.’
Spellcheck tries its best, but there is no replacement for a thorough review.

With so many rules to follow, grammar is a minefield of potential mistakes. However, we enjoy the military precision involved in matching tenses, fixing fragments and reuniting infinitives.

It’s the commas, colons and full stops that indicate the pauses and breaths in your beautiful literary symphony, and we always handle them with great care. A book may have a great cast of characters, dynamic plot and killer twists, but excessive ‘simple’ errors will be the first thing a reader sees.

Consistency, Publishing Conventions and formatting

The added bonus of a professional proofread is the use of a ‘house style’, which will ensure consistency throughout your book. This includes the consistent presentation of numbers, dates and times, capitalisations and hyphenations, as well as looking out for continuity errors. Wasn’t Joe called Jack when the book started? If they live in a bungalow, why are they going upstairs to the bedroom?
You will receive a style sheet for your reference, which documents the conventions used in your book, when the proofread is complete.
Additionally, adhering to publishing conventions, the book will be simply formatted, ready for submission.

The longer the book, the more you save:
We charge £7.50 per 1,000 words for the first 70,000 words of your book.
After 70,000 words, the rate drops to £6.00 per 1,000 words.

Turnaround Times

Our estimated turnaround times are 4-6 weeks per book.
A speedier service is available for a 20% additional charge.

If your book is 100,000 words:
70,000 words @ £7.50 per 1,000 words = £525.00
30,000 words @ £6.00 per 1,000 words = £180.00
Total £705.00

Discounts available for returning customers.

Take Advantage of the 30% Discount for Combining Services

It’s not uncommon for authors to require more than one service at the same time. It may be that a proofread and manuscript assessment are needed, or a synopsis along with a copy-edit. A 30% discount is always offered for combining services (30% off the lowest priced service).

All fees are payable before completion of the work by PayPal, Cheque or Bank Transfer. The minimum fee for any service (excluding manuscript assessments) is £35.00.
